A Little Bit About Grayton Beach Florida

It is the oldest settlement among the beaches of South Walton with Army Major Charles T. Gray being the first to settle here in 1885 and named the town. The timeless aura of the beach town remains unspoiled to date and it has a slogan unique to it ‘Nice dogs strange people” and true to the motto, you can’t miss friendly dogs lazing around on front porches wagging tails. The dog wall where locals paint pictures of their dogs also goes to prove that dogs are indeed an important part of the community. It is a coastal community with an outlook on life that is simply unique.

Grayton Beach State Park

Take a moment and step away from all the excitement. Go and explore the Grayton Beach State Park. This park offers hiking and sightseeing of some of the most gorgeous natural sand dunes and beaches on the Emerald Coast. Many visitors enjoy birdwatching and taking pictures around Western Lake, one of the area’s natural Coastal Dune Lakes.

Driving on the beach at Grayton Beach Fl and more

Grayton Beach 30a driving on the beachGrayton Beach is also the only beach in Walton County and along Scenic Highway 30a that allows driving on the beach. It is a very small strip of beachfront that allows this. Please be warned that you must have a beach permit for your vehicle to drive on it. Also, it is absolutely necessary to have four-wheel-drive. The sand is a beautiful soft white colored fluffy makeup. This makes for wonderful walks on the beach but also some of the best trucks get stuck. If you cannot get a permit to drive your vehicle on the beach get in touch with one of the many beach vendors and have them set up chairs and an umbrella for you.

In such a small community, Grayton Beach has a wide choice of restaurants and shopping to choose from. My favorite restaurants are The Red Bar and Borrago Italian restaurant. I don‘t think I need to tell you what Hurricane Oyster Bar is famous for. Hurricanes also has one of the best happy hours for drinks and food.
